The Oor Mouse in the Town

When a country mouse comes to town,

It believes the cheese factory is way down.

Looks at the steaming fried rice and pizza,

And thinks that it is all the decorated grain and rotten bun.


Sees how nice it is to roam around

In the busy and nasty streets

Than enjoying the lovely breeze in sondha veedu.

Feels how much freedom is given to go mad and bad

Than getting caught by the big cat in the little barn.


Observes the smoke coming out of the dried lips,

And remembers the smoke

Which comes out of the chimneys in the farmhouse.

Understands how glamorous are these people

Who pour a bottle of beer

Than the caring creatures

Who are content with an occasional Kallu.


Finds that there is plenty of syphilis and gonorrhoea,

Than the mere fever and cold

Which come in the rainy days at home.

Realizes that there is no need for being safe and sound,

B'coz, nothing is illegal until it gets caught, in the town.


One day when it feels like

Going back to its sondha oor,

It realizes it is no more a country mouse.

Strives to make it adjusted to the town,

But ends up and proves to be

Just a country mouse

And the town's
